Hi,
I want to rip 2 records at the same time off 1 laptop using Audacity. Is it possible with this equipment and specs?
Audacity 1.3.9
2 Gemsound PL-USB Preamps
2 Technics 1200 Turntables
1 Toshiba Satellite L505 Laptop; Intel Core 2 Duo 2.10 GhZ; 3 GB Ram, Windows 7 Home Premium; 32-Bit OS
Want to digitize 2 records at the same time using 1 laptop

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Probably not. Audacity will only recognize one sound device and that usually means one stereo show (or mono). Plugging two USB sound cards in doesn't count. The computer will only manage one.
There are sound cards that will record multiple sound channels -- over two -- but they usually do it with ASIO software which Audacity doesn't support.

Just why are you trying to do this?
If it is to blend the two Lps then you can record each separately with Audacity, each on its own stero track both starting at time zero and then mix the two tracks together. You can control the amplitude of parts of each track with the envelope tool if required.

Thanks for info Koz. Ha, yeah trying to do double duty in half the time.
WC, I am trying to digitize a lot of records ( thousands) and have 9 turntables running with a laptop for each. I have 9 more turntables but no laptops. Trying to avoid buying more laptops.

OIC - thanks for the enlightenment jberland
Thousands eh? I don't envy your task -I only had around 250 (that I hadn't already bought again on CD) and about 100 tapes - and that took over two and a half years. And now I have just started on my wife's similarly sized collection
