Changing volume in a section of a track

Post by Stephen47 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 9:26 am

There is part of the sound track I am working on that needs to be louder. How do I do this?

If it only needs to be a little bit louder you can use the "Envelope Tool" (the button to select the Envelope Tool has two small triangle one above the other with a blue line between them - it can also be selected by pressing the F2 key).

Alternatively you can use the "Amplify" effect from the "Effect" menu. To select the region that you want to amplify, click and drag along the track.

The Envelope tool will allow a gradual fade from one volume level to another, whereas the Amplify effect will make an instant volume change to the section that you have selected.

If you try to increase the volume level too much it may cause distortion, in which case what you need to do is to make other parts of the recording quieter. Both of the above methods may also be used to reduce the level.
