Nubie Question - How to Amplify Audio

A pretty basic question: I want to increase the loudness of a ringtone. I've opened it and fooled around with the settings but haven't figured out how to simply amplify the track. Could someone please explain clearly how to do this?

dunno about ringtones or software for your cell
but
in audacity
take a wav file
and apply the amplify function
make it as loud as possible
then
compress it
and it will sound even louder

export the wav file
then if you can make a ringtone that will be the best you can do
after that its up to your cellphone and its software

Effect > Amplify > OK.

That will make the music as loud as possible without distortion.

If it's still not loud enough, you can apply some of the compression tools like Effect > Leveler > OK and Effect > Compressor > OK. Those create distortion that sounds loud.

Export a new sound file and apply to your cellphone.
