Small periods of silence, regular intervals

This happens in intervals of .5 to 2 seconds. I doesn't seem to matter what the sound source is. Any cure?

My image didn't upload - it shows a period of dead silence for about a 1/10 of a second. It can be as much as .3 seconds.
