Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) when using NORMALIZE effect

I don't know if this is related to the recent "Crashing Audacity" post but I can get a BSOD just by 'NORMALIZING' the audio from an audio-book recording. Actually using the ctrl-R repeat function of normalize. Other than deleting small sections and silencing others, that is ALL I was doing. It's happen three times now.
I am using a Dell 8400 with 2-Gig of ram and plenty of disk space.
the info on the BSOD is:
DRIVE_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP 0x000000D1 (0x00000028, 0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0xB1D1A2F9)
P17.sys Address B1D1A2F9 base at B1CFA000 DateStamp 40C68F2A.
Question: From previous posts, would setting the peak level in normalize to -6 dB take care of this?
