wierd phasing effect on recordings.

i just got a new laptop. its a toshiba with windows 7 64 bit. ive used audacity on my old computer for about 3 years with the same crappy computer microphone that i got at radioshack and ive never encountered this but when i record it sounds like it has a phaser effect on it. help

First thing is to try turning off all the sound effects and "recording enhancements" in the sound card such as "noise suppression" or "environment effects". If the sound device does not have its own control panel in the system clock then click Windows Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. Click the Playback tab then select Speakers, hit Properties then click the Enhancements tab to turn the sound effects off. Also click the Recording tab, select the mic, hit Properties then click the Enhancements tab to check all recording enhacements are off.

Anybody ever run across "Echo Cancellation" or "Conference Call" settings?

It seems we would run into that a lot faster than "Concert Hall" simulators.

Which that? Did you have exactly the same settings as in the above post? These are a problem for us because no two people have the same settings and it's difficult to steer people out of trouble.

I looked in one of our Vista deskside machines for sound settings and it posted all the sound management for the videoconferencing sound module we have connected. So this changes a great deal with the machine and type of microphone.

On the two Win7 machines I have (one is a netbook) , all you need to do in the Properties is check "disable all enhancements" if you don't want to spend time finding out how each affects the sound.
