1.3 Questions

Hello:

I'm thinking of upgrading to the latest 1.3 version from the 1.2 version I am using:

1. What happens to existing projects in 1.2 when I upgrade to 1.3?
2. If I download 1.3, does it upgrade 1.2, or install a completely new Audacity application such that I have two Audacity versions to choose from (on the off chance I con't like 1.3 for some reason)?
3. I use Audacity to make multitrack music recordings: Is stepping up to 1.3 worth it, or is it just more complicated?

Thank you for your consideration and responses. I have been a devoted Audacity user and tauter for more than five years.

You can't open them both at once, but you can do it one at a time. They both exist. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.

You can install 1.3 and create a short test Project in 1.2. See how it goes.

Maybe a WAV project file can be made up in the 1.2 format then when the 1.3 is opened, the WAV project from the previous 1.2 can be opened in the 1.3?. I would try converting the project to a WAV file & saving it from the 1.2. Then when opened in the 1.3, see if it will open that WAV project?

There are Projects and stand-alone WAV files. Two different things. The Audacity internal Project format is a version of WAV, but you don't get to pick it. I expect 1.2 Projects to open in 1.3. Wave files open anywhere.

Audacity will not Save a sound file. To get a WAV sound file, you have to Export one. You Save Projects. Two different things.
