Unable to record audio from any other program

Howdy,
My problem is that I can not record audio from any external program from audacity.exe. The program that I want to record the audio from works fine untill I tell it to play the audio, then it eats up my CPU time and I hear no audio unitll i tell audacity.exe to stop recording. Then I hear the audio and it no longer eats up my CPU time. I can record after just fine, but as long as Audacity is recording before I click play, it doesnt.
I am using the latest beta as of March 17, 2008 on a Compaq Presario R3055CA running Windows XP Home SP2 Build 2600. It worked before I installed some new sound card drivers (no I am not reomving them and go back to the other ones). These drivers can be found at ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp28501-29000/sp28552.exe if anyone wants to take a look at them.
Whats up with this, and how do I fix it (other than going back to my old sound card drivers)?
Presario
PS: I can record using 1.2.6 fine, its only the beta version that this happens on.
