I spent all morning trying to find a way for Audacity 1.3.12-beta (Unicode) to recognise lame_enc.dll. I tried all the advice I could find on this site and others. Eventually I installed lame_3.97_fixed_crash, and finally Audacity recognised it.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Do I understand there are some sound quality issues with this version of lame ?
2. Is there a later version of lame - without the sound quality issues - which will work with Audacity 1.3.12-beta (Unicode) ?
By the way I'm running WindowsXP
Grateful for any help,
Steve

Re: Difficulty finding lame_enc.dll from Audacity
Interesting.
I went back to http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/
The version of lame installed from Lame_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_Windows.exe didn't work.
The version extracted from the ZIP version libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip does work.
I'd assumed they were identical .dll's but they have quite different byte counts: 372k versus 248k
Thanks for your help.
