Hi how you doing, first time on the forums, I'm a self confessed recording newbie and am using a Lexicon Lambda interface and M-audio Solaris condenser mic. (Would happily answer any questions about these if I can get the frustrating things to record)
I've been able to detect a waveform but it's virtually silent, at the points in the track where I play louder on my guitar, the waveform jumps a tiny bit, so EUREKA there is life! Question, is how do I make this waveform audible?
Well I've re-installed software for the Lambda, maybe I'm missing drivers??? The Lambda came with Cubase LE 4 and me thinks I'll eventually get to use it, for the while, I'm content with a mic recording in mono with Audacity
I would greatly appreciate some suggestions
Thanks in advance

Re: tiny waveform detected but playback is silent
more info would help
but
have you increased the gain on the lambda
how about in audacity
and the driver settings ?
have you tried the amplify effect
does that work
how noisy is it afterwards
can you record okay through the line inputs
are you recording a mouse squeak or a rock band
is the mike next to the sound source or across the room
i assume your speakers are working and the volume is turned up on them

Re: tiny waveform detected but playback is silent
Are you using the large three pin XLR connectors on the back of the Lexicon Lambda and do you have "phantom power" switched on?

to answer your questions. Yes and yes. Lambda has a handy led light that lights up when phantom power is switched on. Thank you for replying though!stevethefiddle wrote:Are you using the large three pin XLR connectors on the back of the Lexicon Lambda and do you have "phantom power" switched on?

hi whomper! I apologise for the seemingly small amount of information, am learning my computer and recording jargon though! I've tried the gain on Lambda, now the driver settings in Audacity however...I will definitely look into, may I ask what exactly needs to be altered in the driver settings to get a louder sound?

another great suggestion, i didn't think of that, thanks for mentioning the amplify effect.
are you recording a mouse squeak haha good oneor a rock band

the m-audio solaris is a multi pattern, i havent yet fully explored it's capabilities, it has cardioid, omni and figure 8 (wonder how that could be used) and bass rolloff switch, i position my guitar about a foot away from the mic
i assume your speakers are working and the volume is turned up on them
