I record as podcast. I have a 4 channel mixer. I need to know how to record multiple voice tracks. Can this be done with Audacity?

I asked that very thing a while ago. Audacity will cheerfully record up to 16 tracks. The trick is get the tracks inside the computer.
This is the thread...

I can get multiple tracks. That's no problem. But I guess the question is how do I assign the tracks to different channels of my mixer?

Do you have a multi-channel sound card? If so, what sort?

I would guess that i do. It's a brand new Dell laptop. On Live 7 Lite, that came with my M-Audio mixer that I just got, can have each channel hooked to it's own track. I just have to sellect "audio" and it finds the next open channel.
But I can't find any settings to tell Audacity that I want a track to use a channel from the mixer.

Audacity currently only supports a maximum of 2 channels for playback (stereo), though you can export multi-channel audio files if you have some means of playing them.
What sort of M-Audio Mixer do you have (model number?) and how is it connected to the computer?

It's a Fast Track Ultra hooked with USB. I record voices in mono and lay sterio music beds underneith. But we have 3 hosts for the show and I need to have 3 channels from the mixer each using one audio track on Audacity.

I guess this won't be the first time.....
------------ M-Audio Help Forum --------------
Are you using the M-Audio ASIO driver?
In your recording softwareís audio preferences, make sure that you learn how to select the M-Audio ASIO driver rather than the MME, WDM, ASIO4ALL or Multimedia ASIO drivers.
----------------------------------------------------
Audacity doesn't directly support ASIO driver software. If the unit won't work with the Windows drivers, then there aren't a lot of options.
Multiple simultaneous channel support is a sore point.

I'm a bit confused here. Are you saying that you CAN record multiple tracks simultaneously?

I can't get one mic to record on track one, while a second mic records on track two and a third mic records on track three.
