VOLUME

Hello, I have been using Audacity for a few months now and everything's been great. Recently I had to take my laptop in to get fixed and had to re-download / install Audacity and now when I record, the output volume is almost muted, even though the volume levels for the MIC etc... are what I used before. Any ideas? Maybe I just need a new MIC? I did try to "Normalize" the recording but all I get is my voice in the background with a loud buzzzzz.

I'm not to technologically inclined so any help would be great. I am hoping all I need is a new MIC.

Joe :D

Make sure you are recording from the correct input. Go to the system mixer for Windows Vista/7 or XP, select the mic input in the "Recording" section, and see if it has an "Advanced" tab or button. This normally has a control where you can boost the input level of the mic.

Assuming this is an external mic, make sure you are connecting to the mic port not line-in (if it has a single input that can be toggled between mic and line-level, turn it to mic).
