Is there a detailed explanation of using the chain command available somewhere?

I'm very hard of hearing. What I would like to do is import a bunch of podcast that are MP3 files, run them through the equalizer to increase the volume dramatically, and then export the files as MP3 files.

Not sure how to use the import or export command using chains. The equalizer command for chains either.

Do I need to specify each file name in the chain. Or can I point it at a directory and somehow get it to take each one of the files?

Basically with the equalizer all I do is take each slider and move it up to maximum. Then save the file.

Then I would like to save the processed files to another directory or same directory but with a change in name to show which files have been amplified.

If there is a detailed write up of the chain command the link would be nice to have.

You may not need the equalizer for that. You are, with a great deal of effort, just making the show louder and you can do that in one step with Effect > Amplify > OK.

However, you can really make the shows louder and more "dense" with a compressor like Chris's Compressor.

Install and use the default values. He designed the process so he could listen to opera in the car. It boosts the quiet parts to compete with the road and engine noise.

The bad news is I don't think you can batch Chris.

I agree that "Chris's dynamic compressor" would probably be the best tool for the job, but unfortunately it can not be used with chains. However the normal "Compressor" effect in Audacity can be be used with chains.

If you've not used a dynamic compressor before, you may find the instructions a bit difficult to understand, so just give a shout if you need help with it.
