Trouble exporting to wav and Mp3

I am suddenly not able to export my files to wav or Mp3 as I have been able to in the past. When I attempt to, the new file is simply saved as a "file" and not as either wav or Mp3. The only change that I can think of is that I upgraded to wmp 11 and this seems to be when my troubles began. I am considering uninstalling Audacity and then downloading the program again. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you play the file? Is it simply missing a WAV or MP3 suffix from the filename or is the file itself completely chewed?

The file will play but shows an error on wmp that restricts burning directly. I can only burn if I right click and send to cd burner. This burns the file but I can only open it from the cd on a computer and it does not work in a cd player.
