I Can't Record??

I just now recently downloaded Audacity 1.3, and it wont register my input. I put my guitar in the microphone jack and everything is in place, I can even hear myself through the computer, but for some reason it wont record my input... Help please?
One last thing, I used to have Audacity 1.2 and it worked fine. I could record and edit and everything worked perfectly, but then it stopped working with the same problem I talked about above and thats when I downloaded 1.3, but nothing has changed.
Again... Help please???

Then you are not recording from the correct mic input, or it isn't enabled in Windows, so Audacity can't see it. Try the steps
here.

Same answer. Configure Windows and the Audacity recording device correctly.

I have done this and followed the instructions carefully, and it didn't fix the problem... Any other suggestions?

You'd have to give us far more to go on - what version of Windows, an image of what you see in the Recording Device dropdown in Audacity Preferences, and (if you are on XP or 2000) what you see in the Audacity Mixer Toolbar input selector.
Did you ensure the mic was enabled/checked in the Windows Control Panel?
Have there been any system changes since the problem started? Have you changed the motherboard or the audio device/sound card? Have you considered a system restore?
Also check you have
appropriate drivers for the sound device. Generic/outdated drivers may give erratic behaviour. Also see the "Windows Update" section at the bottom of that page - it's possible WIndows has messed up a sound device drivers update. In that case you could correct the problem by rolling back to the previous driver set in Device Manager.
