Ambient Sound Problem

When I record directly from my digital piano (Kurzweil RG200) to my laptop (Dell Vostro 1520), it seems that the built-in mic from my laptop is recording the ambient sounds in the room. Is there a way to disable the built-in mic, so that the recording does not contain ambient sound? I am using wires connecting the digital piano's Audio Outputs directly into my laptop running Windows 7.

You may have two problems. You can steer which audio pathway to use with the Windows Control Panel.

However you may have an audio mismatch on top of that. Your keyboard provides a powerful line-level, stereo audio signal, and the most laptops are expecting a tiny, delicate, mono microphone signal. Some laptops can switch the connection to either one, but most can't. So if you find yourself with mono recordings or crunchy distortion, then that's what's happening.
Many people can get out of jail with a USB audio adapter which will accept the keyboard audio like the UCA 202 or something from that family.
