I have a Samason GoMic which I want to use with Audacity to record interviews in the field.Unfortumately the program is having problems recognizing the mic which plugs in via a usb port. The program can allocate the mic as input but when I try to record it gives an error. I am running the program on a Presario F700 laptop with Vista Home edition.
Could someone suggest how to get around this please?
Thank you

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Go through all the "Detecting USB and Firewire Devices" steps here.

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately it still didn't pick up the microphone. I noticed though the desktop had no problem. The desktop is 1.26 and the laptop is the beta 1.3. I have removed the Beta version and downloaded the prior one which now seems to record.
I plan on staying with the stable version for a while.

is this Beta version the current 1.3.12? There are a few reports that 1.3.11 or later can't see USB input where 1.2 can (Windows XP/Vista and OS X 10.5+).katycopsey wrote:Thank you for the link. You can install 1.2.6 on the laptop (Vista) if it is installed into a different directory to the 1.3 install. There is a chance 1.2.6 might crash when you Stop after recording, but it would prove if Vista or Audacity is the problem on that machine.

Re: Go Mic not acknowledged
It was the latest version available, and I uninstalled, reinstalled last week, so that was probalby the 1.3.12
I uninstalled and put the 1.26 on the laptop and it finds the mic without a problem. I am obviously concerned about the crash aspect, and maybe will try to have both on the laptop and only use the early version when I have to use the usb mic.
