I'm using Audacity 1.3 Beta on Windows XP, and every time I import a file, the programme won't play it. The selection bar just flashes at the beginning of the audio track. I've installed all the add-ons, and all my codex are up-to-date, but I still can't get the programme to work.
I tried installing Audacity 1.2 to use that instead, but every time I try to open that version, I get a message saying that the programme 'encountered a problem' and 'needs to close.'
Help! How do I fix this problem? I have an audio project that needs to be turned in on Tuesday, and I can't finish it without using Audacity!

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Where are you getting the music from? Audacity will not open up many different types of compressed, protected, or processed sound tracks. If Audacity partially recognizes the sound, it may play it at a very fast pace leading you to believe it didn't play at all. It did play, but it was damaged.
So where did it come from?

Re: Won't Play
The clip is my own vocals that I recorded in .wav format using Windows Sound Recorder.

Use 1.3.12 Beta if you aren't already.CrStickel wrote:The clip is my own vocals that I recorded in .wav format using Windows Sound Recorder.
Exit Audacity and remove all the contents from the audacity.cfg settings file except "NewPrefsInitialized=1" at the top. See:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audac ... reset_beta
Reboot the computer.
If that doesn't help, please attach a sample WAV file under 1 MB in size recorded with Windows Sound Recorder that behaves as you describe in 1.3.12 after resetting .cfg and rebooting. You can use the "Upload attachment" tab underneath the "Preview/Post Message" buttons.

Re: Won't Play
If it happens again, follow the above routine. If the sound card is behaving intermittently you may need to update your sound card drivers.CrStickel wrote:Thank you. It seems to be working now.
