Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

am trying beta; only recording in mono

Post by degasduncan » Fri Jun 18, 2010 5:03 pm

Hi, am having major trouble with DEP intefering with iTunes and Audacity on Vista laptop. In process of trying to resolve, uninstalled regular Audacity and am trying beta Audacity since notes said there might be less trouble with DEP. However, it is recording in Mono not Stereo. Stereo is chosen in Sounds and in Audacity as far as I can tell. Thank you for any help.

When you say "it is recording in Mono not Stereo" do you mean that
1) it is recording a single channel mono track, or
2) that it is recording a 2 channel stereo track but that both channels are identical, or
3) do you mean that it is recording a stereo track but one channel is silent?

What are you trying to record?

Hi, Steven, thank you for your reply. I just began learning the Audacity software two days ago and barely know what I'm doing although I got five albums converted to digital using the regular Audacity before that darn DEP started interfering with Audacity (also iTunes and Google Chrome). That's when I started trying to deal with DEP, uninstalled regular Audacity, then installed the beta Audacity, got the settings set correctly again, and now when I record on the beta, it is showing the two tracks as before, but only the top one is recording and the bottom one just has a solid line, your third situation. I'm trying to record vinyl like the previous five, Bell Book and Candle soundtrack, and the album says it is stereo. I tried one that I had already recorded with two tracks active, and it also has the silent bottom track. Any help most appreciated; I'd like to be able to use the beta since the description says it works better with crazy Vista. Degas

How is your turntable connected to your computer?
Is this a full size computer or a laptop computer?

You need to go into the Windows Control Panel and set the USB recording device to stereo.
There's some general information about settings in the Control Panel here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... _Issues#cp
