Clicking on the file pulls up error message: "couldn't find the project folder data".
Data recorded in stereo from USB connection to ad converter. I had just finished playback of the file. Is it possible to retrieve the data, and how?
Renaming file makes data disappear - how to retrieve data?

Re: Renaming file makes data disappear - how to retrieve dat
yes - probably - depending
First
dont rename the data !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do you know any ap that works when you move its data or change the name of it ?
so
change the name back to what it was
move the folder back where it was too
WHY would you rename it ?
if you insist on doing things like that then you could go into the aup project folder and change the path/name to what you changed it to
FEATURE REQUEST !!!
hide the data !!
this is the third time in two days people have done this
make it impossible for them to do it.
FEATURE REQUEST
change the name of the data folder to
Do_NOT_move_this_folder_or_rename_the_data.

OK. I managed to retrieve the file. Now I've resaved it under the correct name.
So, back to recording more stuff.

Re: Renaming file makes data disappear - how to retrieve dat
great
glad you didnt lose it like some folks manage to do
there are several people every week who feel that they just have to move andor rename those files
WHY ?
to be fair - i did it the first time too!!!.
but i wanted the info to be in a folder that i set up for just music
not scattered randomly like win aps tend to do
i renamed the path in the project file
FEATURE REQUEST
the first time audacity starts it should require that the user explicitly set up the folder they want the data to be in instead of defaulting to something that tempts them to start moving things later on

It's a lot more serious than that. Everybody thinks Audacity is a WAV editor. It's not. It's an Editorial Production Environment Manager. It produces Projects. That's why Audacity will not Save a sound file. That's not its job.
There's no easy way around this. We've been beating this up for as long as I've been here.
