Crazy Feedback??

I get this crazy feedback that starts out small and rises exponentially to an insane level in like 3 seconds whenever i try to record. I am using the beta for windows 7. Can anybody help??

You posted in the Audacity 1.2 part of the forum - no problem, I'll move it.

In Audacity 1.3.12 there is a much quicker way of switching off software playthrough - click on the "Transport" menu and it is listed at the bottom of the menu.
(Software Playthrough is off by default and for most Windows users that is the correct setting - one of the few cases where you may need to switch it on is if you are recording from a USB turntable and wish to monitor the recording through your computer speakers. In almost all other cases it should remain off (not selected).
