Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Huge distortion

Post by KDM » Mon May 31, 2010 4:47 pm

Hi. I do digitization as a part of a library project, and a part of this is using an ION usb turntable to record old records into audacity.

I recently switched my computer to windows 7, and since then, audacity gives me massive amounts of distortion on everything I record. The visual representation of the recording (the soundwaves or whatever) fill the entire bars. I tried switching to the beta because I read it's more windows 7 friendly, but that hasn't helped.

Please, help!

wait a minute
you change the opsys
them blame audacity for problems you have
does not compute

fix the problem with the new pc and the OS and its settings
and
do not run the TT input into a microphone input connection

Actually changing the O/S or version can make a huge difference (device drivers being amongst those) - you can see that from many of the posts in this forum - and that's why the sticky thread on W7 was written.

Microsoft has made major changes in the audio handling in the transition from XP to Vista/W7 - one of the key reasons that I insisted that Dell "downgraded" my laptopt to XP-PRO when I bought it a while back.

I wasn't blaming audacity, I was just saying that when I use audacity I'm getting massive distortion. No need to get touchy.

Also, I'm not using it in a microphone jack. As I said, it's a USB turntable.

My sound drivers are at their latest, and I upgraded from windows vista (which I think uses the same sound stuff as 7)

I already checked the wikipage and that topic - neither have helped. That's why I've posted here.

Ok - does your ION TT have a gain control (volume control)? Some of them do and some don't - I used to have an ION iTTUSB and that did have one - but it was wlll hidden underneath at the back.

Which model of ION TT do you have?
