cant record my guitar through device

Post by agaudacity » Sun May 30, 2010 2:29 pm

Hello,

I am running windows 7 64bit. I recently installed Audacity- the new beta. I own a digitech rp355 with a usb interface. I have selected my rp355 as my recording device, but it doesnt seem to be picking up a signal- either when monitoring or recording. I have looked at the sound preferences in windows and tried the rp355 as the default device- no luck.

ANy ideas?

do we know the rp355 is actually working ?
do we know what is connected into it is working ?
did the rp355 come with software that does record from it ?
so do we know for sure the problem is with audacity and not other things?

Yes. the rp355 has a software called x edit that you can load other presets onto. its installed and comunicating with the rp355. i also have soundbooth installed, and it does connect with the rp355. the rp355 came with cubase lt. cubase is working on my windows nt computer. audacity isnt working on the XP computer. maybe its best we get it working on the windows XP computer since cubase and x edit both work there.

Thanks. id rather not install cubase on my windows 7 machine. Audacity seems much less resource heavy- especially for my needs.

Try the standard "detecting USB devices" routine here.

The Digitech site doesn't seem to list any drivers for the device. If there are special drivers on an installation CD, have you installed them?

After the detection routine, try choosing the Digitech device explicitly in the Audacity Devices Preferences. Try changing the "host" in those Preferences to Windows DirectSound.

You cannot choose ASIO unless you have installed the ASIO SDK, compiled Audacity Beta from source code and sworn that you will not distribute that build to anyone else. :)

As for what the other choices mean, see the Manual and search on the Wiki for more, for example in Multichannel Recording.
