Re-posting this question, hopefully i got it in the right forum.
Anyway, i have a problem with using the preference dialog. Whenever i click 'ok' on pref window (even if there were no changes), i gotta wait several minutes, and then no audio can be played from audacity, web browser, and some other players, EXCLUDING itunes and system sounds. however, relogging does solve the issue some how, though i gotta wait quite a while, max 3 min, minimum 1.
Im using an SB Live! 5.1 device. and audacity 1.3.12 beta.
I need help solving the issue with prefs disabling playback from most sources. I suspect it might be my device itself that's the issue, but idk and if so, where can i get the drivers for my card? (i don't know the card's details apart from it's name and company)
P.S. Even changing the recording device ONLY can cause this issue.
EDIT: Apparently even system sounds don't work, until i log off that is. So far, only itunes has working playback.

Re: Issue with preferences
Thanks for reposting to the correct forum. So do my earlier replies help as below? You can try getting drivers from the Creative site, but you have a legacy device, so Creative won't give you any official support. You may want to ask on their Forums in that case.

Logging off/on shouldn't make any difference to Audacity playback or to other applications that can choose their own playback device. If it does, and if logging on takes three minutes, you have system issues and/or you are loading far too many programs and services at log on.
You may have issues that your sound devices are buggy or have inappropriate drivers, or the operating system is trying to access unresponsive or inaccessible network or external drives.

Re: Issue with preferences
It's a device that is no longer manufactured, so no longer supported by the manufacturer.Syklo wrote:what is a legacy device?
