help :( can only record in mono

I have my drum mics into my mixer (alesis 16USB 1.1)

Your supposed to use the software you get with the mixer but I couldn't get cubase to even record anything the mixer had plugged in!

So I turn to audacity - much easer layout! But it only picks up my mixer as a mono input??

Yes i have "make new stereo track" instead of audio track..

I am really stumped -

I know its not the mixer because if I take the mixer line out (2 jacks to 3.5 jack) into my laptop mic input then I get a stereo record in audacity !

So I have no idea what to do please help....

Mic-In on most Windows laptop computers is the only analog connection the machine has. It's mono. There are also distortion problems with using this connection for a show other than a microphone.

Most people stuck with this problem pop for a Stereo USB sound card like the UCA202.

I think you misunderstood, I am only using the mic input on my laptop because the USB input only records in mono - the mic input records in stereo.

If you're getting left channel only then you're getting stereo, not mono.

How many mics do you have connected to your external device? If it's only one mic then it's normal to get sound only on one channel.
