I have newly installed Audacity 1.3.9 plus LAME
After recording a file when I go to export then save there is only one option offered for the file type i.e. xxx.xml
I have tried different versions of LAME and set the directory for each of these in Audacity but it still only offers XML
There is only a "save" box there is no "save as" option
Checked through FAQs but cannot find any reference to this type of problem
Can someone offer some assistance please

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Export files - only xml available
Audacity is currently at version 1.3.12
You can get the update from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
It contains some important bug fixes so updating is recommended.
To Export:
1) Click "File" menu > Export
2) Enter/select the required export directory, file name, file type and options, then click the "save" button.
3) When the "Edit Metadata" screen pops up, click "OK"
If you do not want the "Edit Metadata" window to pop up each time,
1) Click "Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export"
2) de-select (un-tick) the option "Show Metadata Editor prior to export step"
