I am a newbe...

I have a 4 hour recording...

I want to begin listening at 2 hours 30 mins, to the end

How do I select that starting point?

Or how to fast forward to that percise point?

Zoom out so that you can see the whole track (Ctrl+F, or use the magnifier button)
Click on the track at the point where you want to start listening.
Press PLAY (or Spacebar).

You will probably find the tutorials (see links at top of page) a good way to get to grips with the basics.
