Help with splicing, creating a new file and exporting

Post by DudeRun » Tue May 18, 2010 6:39 pm

Could someone please tell me how to splice a file and save it as a new project so that I can email that spliced piece as an attachment? Will I loose the origional sound file if I do this? I want to save the origional file also as it was if possible. Thanks, Fred

always back up the original file
save as a different project name
file > save project as > splice version name
(which leaves the original with first name untouched)
then exit audacity and restart
open that splicenamed version
use file > recent files > pick the splicenamed file
(which leaves the original with first name untouched)
then
you can splice dice shred or do whatever to the "splice version name"
export the file to wav or whatever
then you can email that version

Thanks Whomper!......Understood....How do I say, splice a 30 sec. piece out of a say 30 min. file and get rid of all of the unwanted audio before and after that 30 sec. section? I then want to save these clips as new files to be emailed. Thanks for your help !

what do you mean by splice ?

you can select anything in the track
and either copy/paste it to a new track
or delete it from the original track

create a new blank track
then paste to it all the pieces you want from the original

repeat as required to put together pieces from a bunch of tracks into one new one

I'm not quite sure that I understand what you mean by "splice", but if you just want to save a 30 second extract from a longer track then all you need to do is to select the 30 seconds that you want (click and drag with your mouse across the track), then from the "File" menu select "Export Selection".
