Hello. Recently I recorded a vocal cover of a favorite song of mine in Audacity. One day, I decided it would be a good idea to fool around with the equalization effect. I THINK I also added compression and reverb but I am not 100% certain.

Now I realized I over-did them by like, a crapload--to the point where I have no idea how I thought that it sounded remotely good when I first added on these effects.

How do I remove them? I don't want to change the settings I've set the effects to--I just want to take them off of the track for good.

Can I remove the effects? If so, how?

Or will I be forced to re-record the cover all over again? That would really be a shame because I think I did an absolutely fantastic job and would be seriously let down if I had to re-record...I don't think I can do it again, lol

If you still have the project open, you can Edit > Undo, though you will also undo any wanted changes made after the recording. If not, It will be hard to reverse compression and reverb. You can reverse the EQ by by selecting the curve you applied and hit the Invert button (assuming you are using 1.3.12 Beta).

For future reference;
When adding effects such as reverb, a good technique is to make a duplicate copy of the track (select the track then Ctrl+D). Then apply reverb to the duplicate track. You can then adjust the balance of dry (no effect track) to wet (effect track) by using the volume sliders on the left side of the tracks. This technique also means that you can remove the effect entirely by either deleting or muting the effect track.

Immediately after a live capture, Export As WAV and make a safety copy. No matter how much of a hole you dig yourself after that, you can always go back to the copy (on a thumb drive or external drive) and not have to sing it again.

yeah, that's what I thought the answer was going to be. Ok, well thanks anyways.

For the record, now I always do make .wav "safety" backup copies immediately after recording, but a little while ago I didn't. I should've known better. But damn, that really sucks.

I'll try the EQing tip either way and hope that it can salvage it enough to the point where I can re-EQ and it will be fine. Thank you once again.
