This is the first time I am using Audacity since getting my new computer wit Windows 7. I couldn't use the old version so I unistalled it and installed the beta version. I tried following the directions in the FAQ in the manual but everything seems to be OK. How can I hear what I'm recording?

Sorry, I'm 2000 miles away and I can't see your computer or how it is set up. Could you add some description?

Actually, I got the sound to work but it has a hum. I can reduce it a little by reducing the gain control on my ION USB turntable. The last time I used Audacity it worked fine. Back then I was using Windows Vista and Audacity 1.2. Now I have Windows 7 with Audacity 1.3.12 (Beta) because I cold not get 1.2 to work right. I found an article on the Audacity Wiki that mentions the humming and says to adjust something called a notch filter. What else do you need to know?

See this article re. USB turntables: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/USB_turntables

To use the notch filter that is mentioned in the article, download the file "notch.zip" using the link provided. Extract the file "notch.ny" from the zip file and place the notch.ny file into your Audacity plug-ins folder.Restart Audacity and the notch filter will be listed in the "Effect" menu.
