No recording device? (Win 7)

Hi, I need some help. I want to record whatever is coming out of my integrated soundcard.

In control panel -> sound, there's three recording devices listed: front and rear panel microphone jacks and a rear panel line-in. Obviously none of those could be used to record directly from the sound card itself. I have Asus P6T SE and I've installed the Realtek sound drivers from the Asus website.

Also, starting up the Windows sound recorder comes up with an error message that says no recording device is detected. In Audacity -> Preferences -> Devices, there's no recording device listed (it says no recording device found).

Is it possible to get this working without a separate sound card? If not, then how can I still record video with sound using Fraps; shouldn't it be possible to use whatever source Fraps uses for sound, but just leave out the video part?

Much appreciated :)

Windows 7 will hide some of the recording inputs by default.
See here for how to un-hide and enable recording inputs: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel

I went to the Recording tab in the sound control panel but nothing showed up when I clicked 'show disabled devices'.

Also, Freecorder refuses to install into my Firefox so I can't tell if it would work or not.

What I could do is get a cable to connect line-out back into line-in, then use the front panel line-out for speakers.

In Fraps, in the Movies tab, it says

Sound Device: Vista (although I'm on Win7), and
Sound Input: Direct Stream

Is there any way I could use "direct stream" with Audacity or another program to capture just the sound?
