Frequency Analyzer in version 1.3.12

Hello,
I have been using the 1.3.7 version for some time. Done the upgrade to version 1.3.12 recently. What I noticed is that the Frequency Analyser will render different values than the older version for the same recording. That means where on the 1.3.7 I have a -20dB hump on the 1.3.12 it will show around -50dB. Is it possible I miss something here with the configuration. I did check the recording parameters but couldn't see a difference...

System used : Windows Vista Home 32bit, Audacity 3.1.7 and 3.1.12, using an audacity file from 1.3.7 recording andloading it into 1.3.12. Then I verified the same sample with the frequency analyzer and found a difference. Display Hanning Window-Log [email protected]

Thanks for your comments and assistance..
Cheers,
Mario

That confused me too when I first saw it.
The "humps" will still be in the same place (and are easier to "read" now there is a grid) - it's just the amplitude scale that is different.
This was discussed on the developers mailing list and received an answer that I don't understand sufficiently to be able to explain, but we are assured that the current measurement method is accurate, it's just different from how it was in earlier versions.
If you want to read up about it see here: http://audacity.238276.n2.nabble.com/Re ... l#a3192212

Hi, many thanks for the quick response. Sounds like good news to me, means my old vintage gear has now much better (lower) noise floor  but still I can't believe an old idler scoring -80dB at 1kHz ...
