I succesfully downloaded (twice) Audacity 1.3 beta, but I cannot start the program. I get the error message: Cannot make the activation context for 'C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)audacity.exe'. Error in manifest or policy file '' on line . A part version necessary for application is conflicting with another part version which is already active. Conflicting parts are: Part 1: C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)Microsoft.VC90.CRT.MANIFEST. Part 2: C:WindowsWinSxSmanifestsx86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.21022.8_none_bcb86ed6ac711f91.manifest.
Who can help me to solve this problem?

Are you installing Audacity as an Administrator?
Which version of Windows are you using?

You may need to update/repair Microsoft Visual C++ on your machine, but what to do next will depend on what your computer is running.

I did not install as an administrator. I have windows Vista.

Try running the installer as an Administrator - if it still does not work, try setting "Compatibility Mode" to Windows XP.

I have a trouble with “Getting sound into Audacity”.
My OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3; Audacity 1.3.x (Beta) + Lame v.398.2.
What have I did after installing ?
1. I connected my sound source to the analog audio ports /the blue jack/ on the back of my computer
2. I started “Audacity” and opened the “Preference” and “Devices”.
3. I have chosen /twice/ my audio device (first MME: Realtek HD Audio output and input; than: Windows DirectSound: Realtek HD Audio output/input).
4. Both times there was no “selector of source for recording” ("Line In" or "Mic") at the Mixer Toolbar to see.
Please, could You help me ?

The input selector in Audacity is only available if the sound card agrees to play nicely, but some don't
The (almost) fail-safe method for selecting the input source is to use the sound-cards control panel/mixer application. There is usually a loudspeaker icon near the time/date that you can double click on (or right click) to open up the sound card control panel. You then go to the recording settings of that control panel, select the input that you want to use, and adjust the record level.

On RealTek sound card control panels, there are often some settings hidden behind an icon that looks like a spanner.
