I would like to be able to start my new audio where the last track ends instead of having to to use the time shift tool. Is this possible ?
Thanks for any help or ideas.

If you mean that you want Recording to continue from the end of the same track - it's called "append record" and you can either select it from the "Transport" menu, or just press SHIFT+R
