"Overdub" needs to be selected but not "Software Playthrough".
You should be able to uncheck "software playthrough" and still hear the song.

Yes, you can use the "Mute" button on the left side of the track. Alternatively you can use the "Solo" button which will mute all other tracks except for those with the solo button pressed.

However, to get to the bottom of this I'd like to know what this "garbled" effect is that you are getting. Would you be able to upload a short sample of a recording to the Internet (for example to "sendspace.com") and post the download link in your reply. You will need to make a short recording, then use "File menu > Export" to create an audio file that you can then upload. Preferably you should export it as a WAV file. The recording only needs to be a couple of seconds long. If you could include as much detail as possible about how you made the recording (what equipment, how it's connected up, what settings you are using, what buttons you press, etc) that could also prove useful.

The "latency correction" is not set up correctly.

Did you include the _data folder? The AUP isn't a sound file. To get a sound file you have to Export one.

Surprise Koz - AUP and _data folder included, both within the same (zip'd) folder. Is this the first time we've had a working Audacity Project posted?

Yes, that's a long way out isn't it.

What settings do you have in "Edit > Preferences > Recording" for "Audio to buffer" and for "latency correction"?
(take care to specify if the numbers that you have entered are positive or negative - or just post a screen shot).

Assuming that those are the same settings as when you made the latency test recording -

Set the "Latency Correction" to -228 (that's "minus" 228)

Then run the latency test again - hopefully it will be somewhere close.

Well it's fixed the latency adjustment

So was that after only changing the "latency correction" setting?
If you change it back to 0 does it still produce the same result as the first "Click" project?
