Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Adding Fullness To Recordings

Post by KenB » Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:58 am

I'm using Audacity 1.3.11 beta to record music off of YouTube ... and I'm using Windows Media Player 11 to burn audio CD's so I can listen to 'em in my car. Both programs work fine. However the CD recordings sound lifeless, lack a little bass and the volume is a bit weak ... even though all tracks have been washed through the Audacity amplify effect.

What can I do within Audacity to flesh out the sound a bit? How about the volume?

Thanks!

What you should try is a compessor that is often recoommended on the forum - Chris's Compressor: http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/

See also this thread from the forum: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 76&start=0

IIRC he built it to make listening to opera in his car easier without forever reaching for the volume control ...

<<<record music off of YouTube>>>

Are these live performances somebody recorded in the club? Those are notorious for ratty sound and there isn't a lot you can do.

You could also be recording them through your computer's analog pathway and that can sound pretty poor compared to an electronic capture. So how are you doing the original capture?
