applying effects.....ps thnx for help on my last post

Post by chrisjwhitehouse » Thu Apr 15, 2010 12:00 am

now that i've figured out converting to wav & mp3,
i'm trying to play with the effects....i'm frusterated that i have to guess at setting the equalizer, then sample it for however long i set the preview for, then apply it.
i would think there should be a way to monitor the sound while you change frequencies so you can be sure you got it right in real time..........................am i overlooking something? or maybe this "work in progress' thing could consider this as a suggestion
thnx in advance

Unfortunately there are no real-time effects in Audacity, though it is one of the most requested features. In particular there is a "feature request" specifically for "Real Time Eq". I could add your vote for this feature if you would like.

The Equalizer has a "Preview" button that will allow you to hear the first few seconds of selected track with the effect applied. The number of seconds preview can be set in Preferences (Edit menu > Preferences > Playback tab).

I often try out my settings on a short section before going for processing a long track.
To Undo the last effect: Ctrl+Z
To Repeat the last effect: Ctrl+R

thanx again `fiddler', i do use the preview for the moment, but it would be nice to hear the playback while changing the EQ in real time so yes indeed, please add my vote;
