Recording in stereo

I have been recording on a 2005 Sony Vaio using XP, Audacity 1.2 and a UCA202 plugged into a USB port.

I have now bought a top of the range Vaio running 64-bit Win 7 and I am using the Audacity 1.3 beta. I haven't changed anything else.

However, although previously I could record in stereo (voice on one channel, guitar on the other) I now cannot. I get two tracks but the same thing is recorded on both of them (voice + guitar) - so it may as well be mono!

Am I doing something wrong or is this to be expected at the current state of development of Audacity?

i would guess that the problem is win7 and its drivers not audacity.
one of the 7 gurus may have a way to do it.
or your new sound card may not allow audacity to do it now.

do tell us how you set up the pc to do that previously.
two microphones? overdub while playing back first take? something else? what is your current config and all the options/settings?

Windows 7 (and Vista) will often assume that any USB device is a mono microphone.
To change that you need to go into the Windows Control Panel and tell Windows that it is a stereo device.

The quickest way to access the mixer is to right-click over the speaker icon in the System Tray > Recording Devices. Or click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound (if you're using "Classic View" there's a direct link to "Sound" in the Control Panel), then click on the "Recording" tab.

Right click on the USB device icon and select "Properties" - somewhere in there should be a setting for "stereo".
While you are in the recording settings you will probably find it useful to have a look round and see what other options are there. Keep a note on paper of any changes that you make so that you can change them back if necessary.

[Update] - Here's the appropriate bit in the Audacity documentation - it includes some details that are missing from my previous post:
