string of sound effects

Post by roykuz » Wed Apr 14, 2010 10:09 am

I am trying to make a string of sound effects. I import the first one with no problem, when I import the second one it enters below the first one. I can not move it to play behind the first one, all it does is plaly at the same time the first sound effect plays. Can anyone tell me how get effect two right behind effect one? I have several more effects to add to this? Thanks for any help

you can time shift them to line up sequentially
you can cut and paste them onto one track to do the same thing
search the docs/wiki for help on shifting

Unfortunately there is currently no way to automatically append one imported file to the end of another, though this is a frequently requested feature that we hope will be implemented in future versions. For now you need to use the Time Shift tool.

The quick way to change from the normal "selection" tool to the "Time shift" tool is with the F5 key. You will see the cursor change to a double headed arrow. (The F1 key will switch you back to the normal selection tool).

With the Time Shift tool you can drag the audio clips left/right, or (with a few restrictions) you can drag them across to other tracks.

Note that when you import a file into a new (empty) Audacity project, the sample rate of the project will change to match the sample rate of that first audio file. If you have downloaded sound effects from the internet, they could be in any sample rate. The Project sample rate will affect the quality of your final exported file, so it is important to check that after you have imported the first audio clip that the project rate has not been changed to a low value.

The Audacity Project rate is shown in the lower left corner of the Audacity window. This should normally be set at 44100 or 48000. You can change it by clicking on it and selecting the desired sample rate. 44100 is the standard used for CD and many other applications. 48000 is the standard used for DVD. If in doubt set it to 44100.
