I recorded half of a song yesterday and im keen to finish it today, however , when i double click it to open it it says : Unable to open project file.
If i go to open in audacity it says : Couldnt find rhe project data folder, could not load file.
What on earth is going on, its right there, its saved, i opened and closed it several times yesterday. Im getting seriously fed up with Audacity.I hope i dont have to re do all my work

Projects only open when the .AUP file and the _DATA folder are in the same place like on your desktop or some other folder. If they're separated for some reason, different folders, the show complains and will not open.
It is a little worrisome that the AUP project manager file wouldn't open without being in Audacity first.
You cannot move Audacity Projects or "clean them up."
Audacity is very simple and doesn't like running from USB drives or from a network.
Any of these describe what you're doing? One of these is almost always the cause of this error. There are much more serious failure causes like filling up your hard drive or other machine problems.

Rockguitarist88,
I sense your frustration. Although I am new to the Audacity world, I am totally impressed with the program's capabilities, reliability and ease of use. I do my recording on a Tascam 2488 that is loaded with editing and mixing tools, but the tools are much more complicated and "clunkier" than Audacity. So I take the raw .wav files from the 2488, copy them into Audacity....and voila!! It is amazing that folks have taken so much of their own time to develop this great program for all of us to use on a gratis basis. My hat's off to them.
That being said, I think you are experiencing a unique sort of problem that may be hardware related, or perhaps a damaged Audacity system file. You indicated that other projects wouldn't open - but now will open - and only your current project fails. Sporadic failures are a bugger to resolve in almost any technical realm. Guys a lot smarter than me refer to them as "swingers" - it works, it doesn't work, it works, it doesn't work - and it is difficult to resolve an issue that can't easily be isolated. If you're sure that no files have been moved, you might want to consider saving a copy of all your project files and then reinstall Audacity. This would eliminate the possibility of errors that might be caused if a system file somehow got damaged.
Also, just as a matter of practicality I save backup copies of all my files, just in case something were to go kookoo. I reside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA and our tropical weather can become violent in a heartbeat. The power grid in Florida tends to be very unstable due to the weather, the flat terrain and sandy soil which doesn't provide a good, solid ground. I utilize UPS backup supplies, but a barrage of nearby lightning strikes can arc past the UPS breakers and damage sensitive electronic parts. As a precaution, I keep backup copies of any files that are important to me. Better to be safe....
Good luck!
Mick

I agree with TropiRock that the "sporadic" nature of the failure is a bit worrying.
Have you tested your hard drive lately? It may be worth doing a full scan with checkdisk or similar utility just in case your hard drive is about to die on you.
