Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Editing Metadata

Post by asherman » Sun Apr 04, 2010 1:34 pm

Is there any way when exporting a recorded album, that the artist, album name, date amd genre, can be automatically added to all tracks rather than having to type it in for each one? Also when I did this for WMA export, the added info did not show up on the exported files. What have i done wrong?

Yes, go to File > Open Metadata Editor, fill in the data you want common to all tracks, and Save as a Template.
It will appear for each track when you Export Multiple.

Support for metadata is not standardised, and varies between file formats and applications. I'm not sure to what extent WMA supports it.

Thanks for the info on the template, that works well, but a waste of time a the moment as I cannot see the info in Windows Explorer (XP Home), regardless of if I export to Wav or even MWA.

No I could not see through Media Player either, but I did find that MP3 export works fine, so I will use that.

Thanks for your help.
