Sample rate of 44100 not available for 1.3.12 and Lame3.98.2

I use a karaoke program that requires an audio file with a sample rate of 44100 and a bit rate of 16kbs.
I upgraded from audacity 1.2.6 to 1.3.12 and discovered that the new Lame encoder compatible with 1.3.12 does not offer a sample rate of 44100.

Is there a work around for this shortcoming or do I have to continue using 1.2.6.
I'm very impressed with the beta version with all its bells and whistles and want to stick with it

The op sys is Windows Vista Home Premium

Are you sure about that?
"Sample Rates" refer to the uncompressed audio sample rate.
16kbps is a very low quality bit rate - way below "telephone quality".
The MP3 format does not support 44100Hz sample rate at 16kbps.

Thanks for your reply Steve
Since I received your information I've done a bit of reading about the required mp3 file. Along the way I discovered that what the Karaoke program requires is a MP3 file compatible with CD in 16 bit format and 44100 sample rate.

When I am using Audacity 1.2 everything is fine and the exported MP3 files, which are recorded by using the default 16 bit format and 44100 sample rate, are compatible with the Karaoke package. Unlike the 1.3 version I never see a dialogue box with this message.

"Resample
The project sample rate 44100 and bit rate 16kbs combination is not supported by the MP3 file format. You may resample to one of the rates below.
8000, 11025, 12000, 16000, 22050, 24000"

I've tried to export a file using 24000 but the result was hopeless.

Currently I'm using 1.2 again. As I intend that my project will be ongoing for many years I'd like to feel confident that I'm going to be able to grow with Audacity and not be left in the dark ages where support for the version will one day be discontiued.

Can you see what the problem might be from the aditional information I've supplied here.

Regards
Bob Cooper

Yes - "16 bit" does not mean the same as "16kbps" (16kb/s).

When you Export, click on the "Options" button on the Export dialogue screen and set the options to "Constant: 128" (probably the most "standard" type of MP3)
If that works correctly in your Karaoke program, try it at "Constant: 160" (this is a higher quality setting than 128).
