Hi, I use Audacity 1.2.6 (and what a great piece of software it is! Unbeatable...) together with a YAMAHA turntable and an ART USB Phono Plus V2 to rip vinyl.
I have this slight problem though: the signal gets clipped no matter what the setting on the Phono Plus (minimum Gain Trim) and in Audacity (mic volume). the result can be seen here:

That screenshot shows clearly that the signal is being clipped before it gets into the computer, and suggests the clipping is happening before the Art preamp, if adjusting the gain on the Art reduces the level of the signal, but doesn't stop the clipping.
Does the clipping indicator on the Art light up while you are recording? (It shouldn't)
Can you tell us what model of turntable you have, and how it is connected to the Art? The Art is designed to take the output from the turntable direct, without any amplification, but It looks as though there is another preamp in the chain somewhere.
If there is already a preamp in the turntable, you need to set the Phono/Line switch on the Art to Line.
