Double Trouble

I've been using Audacity 1.2.6 for some time without problems. However, prior to installing LAME MP3 encoder, I downloaded Audacity 1.3.11 then uninstalled the original, but my Windows XP pc won't play ball.
I then uninstalled all Audacity, closed down, and started again with only 1.2.6. Still no luck - I apparently still have two versions of Audacity.
I looked up FAQ and other Topics on this Forum (not in depth) but was unable to find an answer.
Please help... I'm going nuts! Jimmy
