Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I've not tried it in Windows, but Audacity 1.3.5 seems to be showing a similar bug in Linux.
It seems to be OK if all the tracks are mono, but as soon as there are stereo tracks, the mute does not work as expected in the Exported audio.

For example,
Track 1 - a stereo track
Track 2 - a stereo track
Mute Track 1
Export

The resulting file has
Left channel = Left channel of Track 2 (as expected)
Right channel = Right channel of Track 2 + Right channel of Track 1 (NOT expected  )

Thanks old_coot, I'll bring this to the attention of the developers.

In the mean time, the previous workaround of using "Export Selected" should still work.

NOTE
If you use "Export Selected" - make sure that the selected tracks are NOT muted. Exporting a selected stereo track that is muted will export a stereo track with silence on the Left channel.

Thanks, Steve. It's just broken really, and worse, unpredictable. Fredee's scenario sometimes gives me the right hand channel of the top (muted!) track plus both channels of the bottom, and sometimes it works (as well as sometimes giving his observed behaviour). Moving/muting/soloing tracks or (in 1.3.5) changing the solo behaviour preference can cause the exact behaviour to change. Even exporting a simple two stereo tracks layout (none of them muted) can produce left hand channel only in the exported file. I have got caught like that, you have to examine the exported file every time.

I've been aware of this for a while but never tracked down a replicable scenario, but as others can see similar symptoms I will make it a "known issue" for fixing. Note that even with mono tracks, although you get the tracks you wanted in the export, if any are not at time zero they can be in the wrong position in the exported file. Not good.

I guess we could be waiting a while before Audacity 1.4 (stable) comes out :(

Gale Andrews indicated in a post on another thread that it may be spring '09 before we see 1.4 shipping.
