I tried the latest beta version of Audacity and noticed that it was not possible to use the letter "L" for loop-playing. I think that is a major problem, because it is very nice and easy to use the "L" - especially when you transcribe 10 hours of voice recordings.
I also noticed that the beta version is more stable than the 1.2.6 version for Win. I often experience (with 1.2.6) that when I start up the program and zoom in on a sequence the program freeze/crash.

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Loop possibility with "L" - to the developers
You mean that you want to change the keyboard shortcut for "Loop Play" from "SHIFT+Spacebar" to "L" ?
You can do that by changing the setting in "Preferences".
"Edit menu > Preferences > Keyboard"
Select "Category: = Transpot"
Click on "Loop Play" to select it
Click in the box where it says "SHIFT+Space"
Press the "L" key ("SHIFT+Space" will be replaced wit "L")
Click the "Set" button.
The Audacity support workers keep asking the developers to remove the "stable" word from the 1.2.6 version as on many modern machines the 1.3 version is more stable. There seems to be some reluctance to do this until the next "stable" (ie. not "beta") version is released. The estimated time scale for a suitable release is somewhere between a couple of months and a couple of decades. In the mean time, we recommend the current beta version for almost all computers.

Re: Loop possibility with "L" - to the developers
Which indeed they did to some extent a while back on the main Audacity site - on the download page: 1.2.6/1.2.5 is listed just as "Latest vns." and 1.3.11 is listed as Beta ... Latest vns."stevethefiddle wrote:The Audacity support workers keep asking the developers to remove the "stable" word from the 1.2.6 version as on many modern machines the 1.3 version is more stable.
Unfortunately it's here on the forum that 1.2 is still labelled as "Stable" with 1.3 labelled "Beta" - which leads a lot of the forum readers into thinking that 1.3 is not really for them as they don't trust Beta s/w.
IIRC we did ask Buanzo (the forum administrator) to change this on the forum a while back - but this hasn't happened yet.
