I have the same erro as auss1is having....

Audacity recoginized the type of file l:.........de.wav.
Importers supposedly supporting such files are:
WAV, AIFF, and other uncompressed types, FFmpeg-compatiable files,
but none of them understood this file format.

My file info is from AVIcodec...
File : 93 MB (93 MB), duration: 0:29:19, type: DSH, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 89 %
Audio : 93 MB, 448 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 6 channels, 0x2000 = AC3 DVM, Supported

My file info from my OS (Vista 64)...
Name: Sound.wav (I do have extensions set to show)
Type: Wave Sound
Size: 93.9MB

Length: 29:19
Bit Rate: 449kbs

Any help would be appreciated.

That's not a regular WAV file. That's a Dolby Surround AC3 six channel movie file. You need a program that can take apart Surround Sound files and give you the six channels of audio to play with. Most converters will not do that and Audacity wont do it, either.

I have resovled the issue at hand inspite of my sloping forehead, long arms, and calloused knuckles...

All I had to do was "locate" the FFmpeg .dll already installed by Audacity. Edit>Preferences>Libraries>Locate and the choose the .dll it lists.

The file works fine now - all 6 channels. Sorry to have bothered you here at this forum. Newbie spam. :D
