USB turntable - input too loud

Please, can someone help me ... ?
We have a Lenco L-3866USB turntable, a computer running Windows 7 and Audacity 1.3.11 (beta).
The turntable is connected by USB.
When I try to record an LP-signal, the input is far too loud and really ugly.
Even with the mixer (microphone toolbar) to the left (0.1), the sound stays horrible.
What's wrong?
Thanks for your help.

The instructions for Windows 7 are not in the main Lenco manual, they are in a "quick guide" which is available here:

Hello,
I used that manual.
The sound became less loud, but still not acceptable.

In what way "still not acceptable"?
When you record, how big (vertically) is the blue waveform on the Audacity track? Is it touching the top and bottom of the track?
I noticed that the instructions say to turn the level down to 2 (which does not sound good to me) - is there any improvement if you turn it down to 1?

Hello,
At first, sorry if i explain things not so well.
I'm not english, so i don't know the exact words.
I bought a cable to connect the turntable with the red and white plug and to the blue circle of my soundcard.
Now the blue wave form looks right, but the sound is still not good. Is this the best such a turntable can make?
As attachment a music part i recorded, and a printscreen of audacity of the same part.
Can you please look at it and listen to it, and give me your opinion?
And if you have ... a solution
Thanks in advance.

OK so then you are using your USB TT as a normal analog turntable. It may be that your TT is switchable between phono and line outputs - if so make sure that it is switched to line (in this mode the signal will apss through the Lenco's preamp and apply the necessary RIAA equalization). If you do not have such a switchable facility then you will need to buy a phono pre-amp - to place betwee the TT and the PC.

There is no switch on it to select Line or USB.
Connected on USB the sound is the same as connected to Line.
Is it possible that the pre amplifier is broken?

If you have no pre-amplification, and in particulat no RIAA EQ applied, then the audio will sound thin and will seem lacking in bass.

I have the same problem. I set the microphone setting to "Input Volume 0.1" which is as low as it goes without being totally shut off. It helped quite a bit, but I can't help but think it is strange to have to set it so low - right next to "off".
Am I doing something wrong?
