Low CPU Usage

Post by Rick87 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:31 pm

Evening all,

I'm currently cleaning up some old recordings using Audacity (great bit of software, many thanks to all involved).

It's taking a bit longer than I would have hoped though, since I'm only managing to get 25% CPU usage when applying filters or exporting the file via LAME.

I have a Q8200, and I get 25% usage per core, and still have approx 2-3Gb of RAM free. I'm running W7 64bit. I've tried smaller files, and also running from my SSD, in case drives were a limiting factor, but there was no change in performance, so it definitely seems like a failure to demand the max load.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks.

I read that Audacity does not support multiple processors, so I'm rather surprised that you are getting 25% on each core rather than loads on one and next to nothing on the other three. I've not seen any updates to suggest that multiple processors are supported yet. Could it be that Audacity thinks it is using just one core, but your machine is spreading the load?

Ok, I half wondered about that. I'm still curious though as to why it's not full loading one core?
