How do I clear the history list for the "file name" text box?

Where do you mean?
The "Recent Files" list?

Under the "edit" heading, clicking "save Project As..." brings me to a dialog box to select the folder to send the project to. At the bottom of this dialog box, there is a text box for entering the file name. this box shows a drop-down history of every name I have used and is getting kind of long. Can I clear this history? (I hope this is not a dumb question)

I just realized my previous post was in error- The "save Project As... option is under the "file" heading in the upper left of the screen.

You mean under the "File" menu?

I don't see any drop down history, just the file browser. Can you paste a screenshot to show what you mean?

I have a screenshot saved in "Paint" but I can't figure out how to paste it to the forum. Sorry- I'm a little over my head with this.

While the picture is in Paint, does it let you save as JPEG or Export as JPEG? If it does, pick medium or poor quality.

What version of Windows are you using? This sounds like a Windows thing, not an Audacity thing.

Thanks to all for helping me. To Bill- I'm using Vista, IE8. To Kozikowski, I have saved the screenshot to Documents and I know how to attach it to an email but not how to paste it to the forum. As you can see, you are dealing with an amateur.

Below the window that lets you type in a reply you should see "Upload attachment". Click on that, then fill in the name of your image file or find it using Browse; much like attaching to an email.
